Happy Birthday to Me!

So, today I turn 31. How crazy is that?!

Ten years ago today, Jamie, Kera and I went out to the bars of Whitehorse to celebrate my big 2-1. Everyone bought me tonnes of shooters, I got completely wasted and have very little memory of that night - but clearly remember Jamie giving me our very first kiss on the dance floor that night.

And here we are, ten years later with two little kids, a house and a garden to take care of! And instead of buying me lots of shooters to get me drunk, my friends are all bringing me plants for our growing garden. How life changes as we age:-)

Last night I came home from a movie with a friend to find both of the girls fast asleep in bed and the back yard lit up with candles. Jamie and the girls had planted a bunch of raspberry and blueberry bushes for me, and Jamie had picked out a beautiful corkscrew tree for my birthday, and surrounded them all with candles! I am constantly thankful that he made the first step by kissing me that crazy night ten years ago.....may we still be kissing in ten, twenty, thirty years from now! xoxoxoxo

Our garden in May

A few people have asked us about our gardens recently, so I thought I would post a few photos of what our garden is looking like these days. We're having a lot of fun creating it this year, and we're hoping to do much more trimming back and adding of new plants this summer. Plus a new deck, a front cordwood fence, hopscotch mosaic up to the front stairs....the plans are endless! But one piece at a time! We planted our veggie garden this weekend, and the kids started their scarlett runner beans for the tee-pee. Jamie's been having a lot of fun creating the kids playhouse, with salvaged wood and blinds for the walls, and then he is creating a green roof on top. May is the best time for our garden, as it is all in bloom - Jamie's only complaint is that it is a lot of pink, so now our goal is to add splashes of other colours! Hope everyone else has enjoyed a restful long weekend full of reading, eating, visiting and playing in the dirt!

May Day

Originally uploaded by the four mckays.
Here's a few photos from our very lovely day yesterday, celebrating the first day of May. It was a VERY windy and chilly day, unfortunately, so we weren't keen on spending too much time outside, but I couldn't waste a non-rainy day just hanging out in the house so I bundled us all up and headed out. We wandered down to a local coffee shop (Liberty) in order to enjoy hot drinks and European pastries, and then headed across the street to The Flower Factory where the girls picked out some flowers. They've been wanting to create a faerie garden forever now, so I thought today would be a great day to at least start it! I'll take more photos as we add to it, hopefully everything thrives despite our tendancy towards brown thumbs!

A little nut -

I just had to highlight this particular photo as it shows how very quirky our Tiegan is! She is definitely a character - very definite ideas of what clothes she will wear and how they will be worn (usually backwards/upside down/inside out - shoes consistantly on the wrong feet, etc!), the funniest of facial expressions, and an obsession with sharing all foods and drinks with her pet bunny who happens to LOVE all foods that Tiegan loves! Especially yoghurt covered raisins. Every once in a while I get a glimpse of Tiegan as a crazy old lady who only wears purple and has a billion cats....as long as she's happy!
